We've known it for years: our region has a robust and growing green and clean economy. Now, it's been validated by the Brookings Institution, which has ranked us 8th in the U.S. for private sector clean economy jobs.
Brookings' new report, "Sizing the Clean Economy: A National and Regional Green Jobs Assessment," highlights the region's impressive Clean Economy Profile, confirming our position among the nation's leaders in the clean economy.
Syracuse far exceeds the national averages in most metrics measured by the report. Among the reports finding:
Jobs: 9,638 clean jobs
Intensity: 11th rank for highest clean-economy job concentration in the U.S.
Wages: $39,254, median annual wage of clean-economy jobs
Growth: 1,376 green jobs added between 2003 and 2010
Exports: $10,317 in exports produced for each clean economy job
The findings also show that we are poised for more growth. We have unique green strengths, with long-standing expertise in segments of the region's clean economy: clean energy, indoor air quality (HVAC and building control systems), air and water purification systems, environmental remediation, environmental engineering, and green building materials.
Combined with our college, university and research assets, along with strong public support, unique City and County incentives and CenterState CEO programs, we have the ecosystem to help companies in the cleantech sector develop and thrive.
