Syracuse Named One of "America's 50 Hottest Cities"

For the past eight years, Expansion Management Magazine and ExpansionManagement.com have asked 80 prominent site location consultants to choose the 50 best cities in the U.S. for business expansions and relocations. We are happy to report that Syracuse has made the list of
America's 50 Hottest Cities for 2006.

The Syracuse area also scored high in another standard feature of Expansion Management. Syracuse was designated one of the "5 Star Metros" for 2006.

For the "Hottest Cities" list, Expansion Management surveyed more than 80 site location consultants in order to find out which cities their clients find most attractive when it comes to selecting an expansion or relocation site out of the nation's more than 360 metropolitan statistical areas. The consultants, whose identities remain confidential, were asked to take into consideration factors such as business climate, work force quality, operating costs, incentive programs and the ease of working with the local political and economic development establishment.

The "5 Star" designation represents the "gold standard" for cities in Expansion Management's various annual metro "Quotient" studies. It is awarded to the top 20 percent of the 362 metro areas, and cities that earn this distinction can rightfully consider themselves to be among the elite in a particular category (i.e., public schools, health care costs, logistics infrastructure, etc.).

"Most metros have at least one area of strength when it comes to attracting business," said Bill King, chief editor of Expansion Management. "These metro areas that made this list are strong across the board. For employers who are trying to find the best location for a new manufacturing facility, distribution center, or regional headquarters, these cities represent an excellent value."
